    Available space for Diesel Conversion

Hi all, I have recently found a Turbo diesel engine, should be Isuzu 4b series based. But I am not sure it is 4BD1, no marks.

It has a dimension of L/W/H 795×680×825. Can this be fit into the engine room for a discovery or defender?

Any photos? Some of the more learned members here can probably help identify it. Another consideration is the weight, the 4BD1 is already heavy for something the size of a Landy, apparently the Chinese knock-off 4BD1s are even heavier and Isuzu made a few heavier 4 pot diesels too.

Don't know about the Chinese ones, but a genuine 4BD1 or 4BD1T will have '4BD1' cast into the bottom l/h side of the block. The letters are quite large and should be easily visible unless covered with gunk.

Your dimensions are close to those for a 4BD1T.

As others have fitted the 4BD1 and 4BD1T into engine bays of RRC, Disco I and 110, then it could be made to fit. There are problems however such as air cleaners for RRC and Disco, air con for 110's, 24 volt electrics, etc to solve.

Note as per post above, both the 4BD1 and 4BD1T have "4BD1" cast on the LH side.

    you guys are awesome!

I think it is pretty much looked like a Chinese-made isuzu based engine, but not isuzu marked.

In this pic you can see the Isuzu logo cast in the block above the '4B' and between where the engine mount bolts on and where the dipstick tube fits.

I don't know if the Chinese copy the Isuzu logo.

BTW, the year is in the number cast into the block on the RH side.
