    4bd1t question(s)

Hi all, I am new here from San Diego CA (US).

There is a 4bd1t I am interested in possibly buying. Its currently sitting in a 1991 NPR truck here locally and the owner says it has 250K miles on it. Currently not running, as it has no radiator etc. Oh and he is asking $700(US) for engine with all the accesories...

I am a novice when it comes to these engines. What should I look for? Is the mileage too high? Could I rebuild it myself in my garage or do I need to take it to a professional?

    Thanks for any input...

If it's been well maintained, then that mileage is only halfway to a rebuild. If it's been thrashed or neglected then it could need rebuilt already.

They are sleeved engines and the sleeves can be pulled and replaced at home with some custom tool to pull up the liners.
Use only genuine parts. 95% of the aftermarket parts are rubbish and the time spent to find the 5% that aren't isn't really worth it.

    buy it.

a DIY rebuild will cost you about that again

    even in
"I cant believe it still runs like that" condition they make some stupid high Kms before chucking in the towel. I know I've maintained the buggers for years for the military and if its stupid and it can be done to an engine then Ive seen it first hand or heard of it from reliable sources.
