I was going to follow your lead with the wastegate but now you've got me thinking.
Mine seems to work but have to fab a bracket.

Without a functioning wastegate it's not EGT that is a problem. Rather exhaust pressures build much higher and these kill power. Just like an exhaust brake.
The inlet pipe previously just butted into the side of the filter housing with a circle cut out of the housing. To make the opening bigger I made the inlet so it goes over the curve with an oval shaped opening on the housing.

Looks good.
With the air entering at an angle like that it would help with the cyclonic action to separate dust too. I guess you'd probably want it to swirl the air in the same direction as the vanes on the main filter.
I really should get off my butt and put an actuator on mine to see what difference it makes.

From my experience after fitting a wta intercooler it was a noticable increase in performance ,lower egt . It basicly was a gear differance . What i mean is that if you normally go up a hill in a particular gear on the highway ,you would find you could stay in a higher gear and not have to change down. Therefor the inter cooler is lowering the temp of the air entering the engine thus producing more power . I did the same to a Nissan patrol 4.2 turbo . We dynoed the vehicle on the Friday and re did it on the same dyno on the Monday -6hp increase at the rear wheels.Hope this helped
