    With a quick measure in the shed I would say 921 = front of water pump pulley to end of Isuzu bell housing.

    If I measure from the front of water pump pulley to fly wheel housing (where bell housing bolts up), it is 700mm. The fixed fan at the front is 60mm extra.

    Landy bell housing is too hard to measure from engine bay and it's too cold to be lying on concrete tonight. Plus surely the length of the Landy 4bd1 bell housing is around here somewhere....

    Note I could be out by a few mm as well... It was a tape measure eye ball job.
    So, thinking out loud here... If the overall length including the bell housing is around 921, I just measured up a spare V8 sitting in the garage and that is about 730 from the back of the block to the front of the fan. That coupled to the shorter 200mm bell housing is almost the same length as the Isuzu with the standard 295mm unit on it. So, if I used the 295mm bell housing the front of the engine would be in a similar spot to where it is now.

    All I'd need for the box is the longer bell housing and input shaft and this would all bolt up right?

    I'm off to bed, but I'll get a tape measure out to check tomorrow.

    isuzu length

    My Isuzu has truck flywheel cover and bellhousing adapted to cut down v8 lt95 bellhousing. My motor sits about 2 or more inches further back in the engine bay than factory setup. Havent measured anything, too wet n dark outside.
    Having looked at factory fit, the flywheel cover is about twice as deep as truck, hence spigot bush adaptor and deep flywheel etc.
    I cant fit the Donaldson aircleaner between motor and firewall

    I see the numbers as:

    V8 = 930mm fan to bell housing. (730 + 200).
    Isuzu = 1055mm fan to bell housing. (700 + 60 + 295).

    I know nothing about how they bolt together sorry.

    I have two range rovers here, one with v8, one with Isuzu 4bdi and Isuzu gearbox, both in factory position. I can measure distance from the radiator to fan to let you know how much clearance you need. (Or any other clearances)

    I get over to Meredith a bit, I'd like to have a look at that setup if you don't mind?

    Ah - it would help if I had read your last post when I wasn't half asleep.... Yes, that sounds right. Still got to use the short bell housing from the 101.

    That would be good - are the engines sitting the same distance from the firewalls in each vehicle?

    Will have to check. But the transcases are in the same spot (standard drive shafts), I do run the Isuzu gearbox though, but the motor is in the lt95 position as I had it in before I went for the Isuzu box. Confused. I can get pics if need be, just let me know what you are after.

    Great. Looks like it will fit fine using the current gearbox even with an adaptor plate. Looks like the hunt for a suitable engine will begin soon - well, after I get my tax return...

    Well, finally had the time to pull the covers off the 101 and measure it up. Looks like it will b a squeeze in places, but it will go in. It is a very tall engine - around 90mm taller that the V8 as best as I can tell, but no dramas, and it will leave the gearbox exactly where is currently is, so the driveline doesn't become an issue.

    So, onto collecting bits and pieces now as I can save the money. May have a lead on an engine so I'll see how that pans out. Once I have that, I can see what is needed to get it to fit to the box.

    Is there a particular version of this engine I should or shouldn't be looking at? The lead I have is for a non turboed unit out of a Perentie. As I think I'll need a custom manifold and I have a turbo and intercooler lying around, I thought this may be the best place to start.

    Try and get a later model Turbo jobby, if you can. If you need to compare things feel free to pop in and look at the differences between the v8 and Isuzu in my rangies, won't be around for 5 weeks though.
    Try truck wreckers for an engine.
