    Tappet adustment

I had someone do a tappet adjustment for me on the Isuzu for the 1st time I've owned it (since 2001). It made a noticeable difference and now runs smoother.

Definitely quieter in the lower rev range, but only slightly in the upper rev range. It idles smoother, and is better to drive. It seems to sit on 100kmh easier. A really worthwhile thing to do. I had a go at doing tappets years ago and mucked it up. So let someone else do it this time.

I had some steering work done too. Previously, keeping it straight on the highway required high levels of concentration. No wonder driving would make me tired. Still needs new suspension bushes, but a lot better now.

for new 4bd1 owners that havent got the manuals or found out yet.

    set them to 16 thou
cylinder #1 at TDC valves #7,8 rocking adjust valves #1,2,3,6
    roll crank 360 degrees
cylinder #1 at TDC Valves 1+2 rocking adjust valves 4,5,7,8

Torque setting for the lash adjuster lock nut is 12nm from memory. Dont go much tighter as this mauls a section of thread making later adjustment difficult.

Make sure the 0.4 (16thou) feeler gauge has a little drag when you pull it out and check it again after you have torqued the nut. They move ever so slightly sometimes .

    Cheers,

I'll volley my place in NW Tassie, but you'll need to bring your battery heated C string with you.

Maybe I'm a dumbass, or I need to get myself a set of the magic feeler gauges that will fit under the rockers that are pushing the valves open?
Am I reading that right that we are adjusting the rockers that aren't rocking / loose? I thought it'd be 7/8 rock adjust 4,5,7 and 8. etc'.

    Gotta love syntax!!

    Cheers.
