    Suggestions for rebuild kit suppliers

    Hi all.

Can anybody give any recommendations for rebuild kit suppliers in Australia for my isuzu 4BB1. Several of the ebay suppliers have them but i am not really sure of the quality of components. Just after some guidance towards a reputable supplier

    Cheers in advance

Have you tried Isuzu themselves? Helps if you can give the parts guy a model/year of truck that the engine would have been fitted to.

If buying individual parts be aware that you can get most things by the "cylinder" rather than always being supplied with a full engine set. Eg if you buy big end bearings you can buy just a pair of shells for one cylinder, and will need to specifically buy 4 if you're doing the lot.

The few genuine 4bd1 engine parts I've bought have been pretty reasonably priced. IIRC a full set of big end bearings was about $40.

Whats the reason for the rebuild?

    Thanks for the reply Steve,
Had not tried Isuzu yet, expected them to be on the pricey side.

As for the reason for the rebuild, I had the head off the engine to investigate a small coolant leak and inspecting for wear after finding out my air filter had gotten wet and fallen apart (been about a year since i checked it last ). A lot of wear in the engine from what i have measured so far, also has damage on No.3 piston crown after ingesting some small lump of alloy
Actually surprised how well it started and ran considering, just a little smokey on startup.

    Cheers Paul

    Bugger.
Just a thought, but have you considered just getting a good used 4BE1 and dropping that in?
Nice engine by all accounts, and I'd reckon it would be a lot cheaper than rebuilding yours.
I think someone on here had one for sale late last year for a decent price.

I have also been thinking about that too, but going to a 4bd1, would need to get it re-engineered and blue plated again for the change in engine which would be a significant cost. I'm assuming even though the same capacity as mine a 4BE1 would still require this. If I go down the rebuilding track I will do all the work myself, including any machining needed so I would really only be paying for parts. I think the deciding items will be the crank and camshaft which i have not inspected yet. If any of them are cactus then i will be putting another engine in. Probably going to take a look at the G/box as well before spending any money with my luck it will die as soon as i get the engine sorted

This is QLD transport... if you submit a change of engine number form, they will ask if it is the same type of engine as fitted previously... if you answer yes they will put the form through and nobody will be any the wiser...

They are all 4b engines... even at a rwc as long as the engine number matches the paperwork i doubt any questions would ever be asked...

I'd reckon even if questions were asked, since you're already plated for the 4bb1, a 4BE1 would fall under VSB14 that QLD transport points at: "fitting an equivalent engine with an increase of less than 20% power" that doesn't require additional certification.

You could argue the same for a 4BD1...

Agreed. Was thinking the 4BD1T power which is roughly 30% IIRC.

Never let it be said that you don't consider all options
