    HD clutch options

Hi, I am about to replace my shuddering clutch before I fit my turbo.
After going nutty after weeks looking at old posts, I feel like I should ask.
This is fitted to a LT85, I don't think I will be running any extreme boosts, and no plans for a intercooler (yet).
Justinc has said he has a KLR 28003-1ax from Extreme Clutches, it fits a 4bd1t, but on the site it shows it being the same size that is fitted to the 4 speed. The 5 speed (NA) kit is KLR 28002-1ax
There is also Exedy who make the OEM clutches for Isuzu. They have a kit RVK 6868 HD.
I have also read about a Isuzu kit but cant find that post again
All have a clamp force of 1100Nm.
Any thoughts, opinions or problems on any these.

Nm is a measure of torque not force.

    I think you mean 1100 N

Back on the clutch, I bought a NOS clutch plate from JC and a good SH turbo pressure plate from Bearman.

Many thousands of hard km and many extended offroad trips later thay are still doing fine.

The clutch was a bit heavier after I fitted it.

    G'day Albert,
The only difference between the 4 and 5 speed kit is the clutch driven plate. 4 speed being coarse spline and 5 speed is fine spline. You can buy a new turbo pressure plate from Isuzu dealers if you want, the part number is 8970317592 and the clutch plate is AYG3463. Throwout bearing complete is AYG3339.

I'm running that Isuzu pressure plate, and the genuine LR friction plate for the LT95 Isuzu. Have done around 50K km's with a decent amount of towing etc and never a hint of it being unhappy. Only running 15psi.

I've got the 1" diam slave cylinder and SWMBO doesn't find the clutch particularly heavy.
While you've got it apart check the diameter of your slave, as I've driven a couple of counties with the Extreme clutch - one was OK (just slightly heavier than mine) and the other was VERY heavy. I'm guessing the heavy one might have the smaller diam slave.

Just received a Exedy HD clutch kit. They are the OEM for Isuzu (said the Isuzu parts man).
I only recently replace the clutch master cylinder, the local brake place was about to order one then remembered it was the same as a standard trailer brake master. So I will have to check the size to make sure it is the right one.

From memory, the standard trailer brake masters were 3/4".
I have the Extreme KLR 28003-1ax and although a little heavier, it is one of the smoothest clutches I have ever used.
That clamping force should have read 1100kg.
If anyone uses the Extreme clutch kits on the Isuzu, remember that the metal bearing carrier spacer needs to be swapped out of the old clutch to the new, as this part is not included in the new kit.

Just want to share some info here,

I bought RVK-6867HD which exedy says fits non military vehicles with the 4speed trans. Except it is listed under 4BD1T powered land rover for whatever reason.
Anyway, the supplied bearing BRG2120C I thought would be OK to use by swapping over the spacer from my current throwout bearing.

But I cannot, because BRG2120 is a 45mm ID bearing, and the spacer requires a ~46mm ID bearing 1"13/16.

Exedy says that their part BRG2633 is a modified BRG2120 which includes the spacer, and they only have 3 left, and cannot make any more. This is the equivalent part to LR AYG3339.

I have spent the past few days ringing around Brisbane QLD to source a 7/W 1 13/16 bevel face bearing. One person is getting me a old stock RHP brand part from Melbourne, but these bearings appear thin on the ground nowadays. Lots of people told me they sold one 15 years ago, another place said 'on bearing net there are lots in the UK'.

7/W 1 13/16 goes by a more common name GSB302 which is a standard Australian bearing number. The size spec is 45.97X73.4X16.76 (source Australian Bearings - Auto bearing cross ref)
I spoke to a chap at BSC and he said they can get a NSK part, NSK W39-5 but the minimum order quantity is 400 bearings...

So it's very likely that a V8 throwout bearing from the UK will fit our spacers just fine because it's probably the right imperial size, and this is probably what KLR automorive in NSW supply, as I have used their clutch kit in the past and I swapped my spacer into the supplied bearing.

Are the 4bd1t clutch friction plates/clutch disks different that the land rover v8 plates/ disks for the lt95 and lt85? I can get the v8 disks locally in Canada but can only find the AYG3463 (lt85 disk) part overseas.

I have fitted a V8 Friction plate ( & pressure plate) to an Isuzu no worries. As Bearman points out, the LT85 & 95 differ only in the spline count.

Thank you, that will save on some shipping cost.
