Hey All,
I just want to touch base and see if anyone here managed to install the Isuzu 4JJ1 engine into a Land Rover. I am looking at doing something similar in my Discovery 2. My TD5 is getting a little tired and needs a rebuild. So I have decided to move away from this and install the Isuzu 4JJ1.
Does anyone know if there is a Bellhousing for the R380 Manual that will bolt to the 4JJ1? If this is too hard I will look at using the 6 speed manual from the new D-max once I can find a good affordable donor car. The 6 speed manual option I feel would be a bit more work due to connecting the LT230 to the Aisin AWR6B45 6 speed Manual from the Isuzu, New transmission mounts, transfer box location, prop shaft modifications etc.
I have chosen the 4JJ1 engine as it is a simple truck engine. Lots available in Australia, very affordable replacement engine and will be a good reliable engine for long distance driving. They are also comfortably producing about 400hp at the wheels with modification and tuning at a few diesel performance workshops around Australia.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is wild. I see there are no aircleaners on the turbos - wonder how long they will last?

Hello All,
Sorry for the thread hijack Cammo and Mr Landy,
Is it possible to transplant a 4JJ1 or a Cummins 2.8 into a Series 3 long wheel base which was originally fitted with a six cylinder motor?
Last night I contacted someone who was selling a 200tdi. I asked whether the motor had been compression tested or whether they had pressure tested the coolant system. The answer was no. I will not mention the asking price - lets just say that it was not valued in the hundreds. Plus some parts for the 200tdi are now getting associated with ""unobtainium".
Also, the advancement to a 300tdi is facing issues with obtaining reliable and serviceable replacement heads.
Would the more modern alternative of a 4JJ1 fit into a former six cylinder long wheel base Series 3?
Kind regards
Lionel
From my recent research into the same scenerio...
A 4JJ1 has an engine ECU so you'd have to make it run stand alone. Then how to deal with instruments etc. An alternate would be a 4JH1 which is 8 valve vs 16 valve. It is commonish to install mechanical injector pump & injectors from a 4JB1 to a 4JH1 to delete the ECU.
One on line has installed the mech pump into a 4JJ1 which would be the ducks guts. 3.0l TD, mech injection, 16 valve, intercooled, VNT!
