    Alternators in 2016

There are a lot of old threads on alternator upgrades, but lots of dead links and alternator models I couldn't find on google.

Anyone have a recommendation that is a relatively easy swap? One thing is for sure is it can't be any deeper/longer as my exhaust is only millimeters away from the back of the vac pump.

I really want to install my FYRLYTS but they draw so much current I doubt the original alternator will be able to keep up! 25A just for driving lights.....

    Cheers.

Could you measure it for me Damien? From anywhere sensible to the back of the alternator so I can see if it will fit here....

Ok. Will measure it to the bolt hole on the side of the manifold in your pic

Thanks Damien, as expected, it's going to be a close call. Probably too close to call without buying one (of course!).

Your measurement is to the back of the 2 banjos? I can subtract a little there as I only have the 1 banjo. Correct?

Your best bet might be to pull it out and go talk to an auto sparkie. I did this after buying one online that died in less than a year.. he measured it and went through his books and picked 2 out for me to choose from. I'm not sure what it was off but it was $440 works great.

Hi Justin, it looks like you have an old 45A one with the external regulator. They are longer that the Hitachi 70A ones and the one Damien has so you should get away with it. Post up the length of the alternator from the adjustment rod to the rear of the vac pump and someone might be able to measure their 70A one and post up the figure.

195mm from the rear of the adjustment tab, to the rear of the banjo.

    Any comparisons would be great!
