    4BD1 or 4BC2 identification

    Hi folks,
I bought this motor for my old NPR and it was delivered today, I know its not a Landy, but I've transported many and used to own a Disco
I found all of you here very knowledgable about the Isuzu motors. my concern is its not a 3.9, I think maybe Chinese..has SY on the timing cover.
The engine number is star 05154974 star..The rear crank seal casting is cast not alloy as is oil cooler.....Any thoughts..Thanks David

Can't tell exactly what it is from those photos, but doesn't look like any genuine 4BD1 I've seen.
Genuine has 4BD cast on the side of the block - LH side from memory.
What is it meant to be?
If you are putting the twin spin on filter setup on it make sure it has 2 holes under that filter cover, and vice versa, don't fit a single filter housing if it already has 2 holes in the block.

everything except the new pistons..its done a lot of hard Km's...was cheaper and I thought easier just to go with this new long motor..didn't realize the dramas that went with it !!!

The old engine needs full rebuild..will do that over the next few months..but this 'new' engine is giving me grief..had to re thread all! bolts to suit the Chinese one...original thermostat housing doesn't fit ..nor do the original injectors..they take the larger bodied ones..finally got it started and now has a weird whirring noise form inside the block!!!

Surely it would have been cheaper and easier to rebuild the old one?
