    TD5 Instrument Panel Swap

    Hello everyone! First post...

I just recently bought a 1983 110 hicap that had already had an Isuzu 2.8L T swapped into it. The cab and dash lights don't work /blown so I went to change them out and saw where the binnacle bracket tabs are all broken as well as many of the plastic light sockets so I saw that a good upgrade is to switch out with the TD5 Instrument Panel. Should there be any issues with the different engine and some of the gauges?

I am not familiar with that engine, but there is a potential for the temperature gauge to misbehave. None of the other gauges connect to the engine, so should not be an issue. Also, I am not sure when the speedo changed to electronic - if changing this you will need the gearbox unit as well.

However, if the only problem is the tabs on the binnacle, the actual moulding is available and all the gauges etc can just be swapped into the new moulding. Did this a few years ago on my '86.

    There is this option.

Also if you have a google there are a few guides on the gauge upgrade.

    For example.

Yes, it will; still lots of wasted space though. This is what I did (obviously not finished in the photo - haven't take one since). Potential for 10 warning lights - almost half of what the original fascia has - and I still am not using all of them.

Thanks, I looked at the Raptor unit and will likely get the metal mounting bracket. However, for the price of buying that and upgrading to LEDs I could get a TD5 dash and have more visible gauges.

I was just worried that a lot of threads mentioned getting gauges specific to engine but I hadn't seen one pertaining to my specific engine yet.
The main issue seems to be matching the correct sender thread size. Any help with what mine should be?

Also, a little worried that there is some wiring issue that is the reason why the cab and dash lights don't work...will address after getting a meter.

    TD5 Instrument Panel Swap

An '83 model will likely have all the wiring issues of an old landie.
Earth issues, corrosion on connectors and glass fuses for starters, then any "improvements" that previous owners have made.
Td5 speedo will need the electronic sender for the transfer case.

    I had a 90 with that engine.

The temperature sensor was a mismatch. It always read hot. Unfortunately I don't remember what I did to fix.

Got a feeling a later model gauge read correctly.

That looks awesome Dervish, do you have any plans for that layout? Is it mounted on the standard binnacle?
Would love to copy it, it makes so much sense.

Yeah, it's mounted in the standard binnacle. One day I'll get a Raptor binnacle to mount it in, they weren't around back when I made this.

If you have Google Sketchup I can send through the design so you can modify it etc.
