Is your battery in good nick??
When I go to start the Landy she is now makeing a horrible meshin noise and takes a few goes to start. Would it be missing teeth off the ring gear or something wrong with the starter? Can the starter motor be rebuilt if so?

Quite common to have earth or connection issues too, so if it's a clackety sort of noise check the voltage at the starter while cranking. If it drops right off you've probably got a dodgy connection issue between battery and earth or battery and starter.
If you decide to pull it apart, Contacts and brushes are available from the likes of Ashdown Ingram. Take your old bits in as samples.
I did a bit of a thread on freshening a starter up last year. Either in this section or projects.

Hi Steve, would you have a link to the thread. I cannot seem to find anything in the search bar.
I have pulled the starter motor out and there are no teeth left on it. Not sure if I should rebuild it or replace it.

FWIW - I find the best way to search the forum is to use Google, enter your search term then add "site:aulro.com" so that it only shows results from this site.

Hey mate
If there's no teeth left I'd be sure to check your ring gear, if the starter is that knackered there's a good chance your ring gear may not be much better
Handy way of doing it by yourself is to set your phone to video, poke it in the starter hole and turn the engine over. Once you've done 360 degrees have a squiz at the video and it'll give you an idea
