G'day Brian - is it a dual tank system ? - there have been occasional issues with the Pollak valve itself.

Otherwise I would first assume as others have noted that it may have an air or fuel leak.

No single tank only. I still reckon it's the non return valve but he reckons he has checked it.

    Hey Brian,

I also reckon it's an air leak issue on the inlet piping somewhere, allowing a bit of air in the system of a morning. The Suzies don't seem too bad at self bleeding; so reckon that's why it is fine for the rest of the day after an initial start

I reckon if he can, run a brand new hose from a container of fresh diesel straight to the lift pump intake. Bleed and start it one night, run it for a bit then let it sit and see if it starts up straight away the next morning. Should cancel out the tank to lift pump lines. All the others are steel lines and it would be obvious to see the leak. If that doesn't fix it, reseal all the steel pipes with new dowty seals

Wouldn't disregard the IP either, the tropics are known for bad fuel and diesel bug as well

I went to Exmouth with a mate a while back, he had a V8 Cruiser and had fitted a new water seperator just before the trip. It was a sod to start in the mornings but fine the rest of the day. Turns out he hadn't put any thread sealant on the barb fittings in the fuel filter housing. I resealed them with some pipe sealant and it was all good after that. Only needs a tiny hole and sometimes it can be that small it won't be a noticeable leak.

Thanks Jock, I will pass that suggestion on to him today.
