    Glow plug indicator light

My glow plug indicator light is not connected for some reason... The supplement shows it being the middle bottom light. Is that really the right place as it contains the high temperature symbol that is normally used for gearbox overheat on "other" Defenders? They normally used the "choke" light for the glow plugs.

There is also something connected to the bottom right light with a strange symbol that comes on when starting. Manual shows a 6x6 symbol, but that us not what is there. Is there normally something in that location?

On both the RFSV 110 and the civvie '87 110 & 120, the indicator light for glow is the light second from right on the lower row of indicators. The "choke" symbol is used on this light.

It only illuminates (showing current to heater plugs) when the start key is manually held between "on" and "start".

Is you motor car a LR with a factory fitted Isuzu? If it is a 6X6 I cannot tell you if it is the same.

Thanks for that. I'll hook it up that way then. It was strange as the yellow wire for the light was sitting loose and the connector made me think it was one of the standalone lights. Why is it that every time I buy a truck, there is a week of my life spent fixing up strange PO wiring.

I'm so shocked that the manual was wrong. LOL..

Oh, and yes, it is a 1985 CSW 110 from Australia with a factory diesel.

Yes, this is for my wife. A lot better for the long touring trips. We will keep the 90 for off roading.

The truck itself was built by the owner of Roamerdrive and used for his worldly travels for the last decade or so. Where he lives, glow plugs are not needed and I'm just tidying up a few things to make it work in the winter.

So I had a look and there are no terminals in the multi plug for the "choke" symbol. I wonder if you can get those terminals somewhere?

Just reviving this old thread. The glow plug light comes on when I hold the key in the correct position on my Isuzu, do they have a timer, does the light go out when the plugs have heated enough or is it a case of a couple of seconds and crank away ?

    Cheers,

    Mark

Hi Mark, assuming the glow plugs are correctly wired, while the light is held on with the key in the intermediate position they continue to glow.

There is no timer. Sort of like an old tractor.

Generally 4BD1s in good nick need no glow unless it's subzero.

A new or newly rebuilt engine rarely needs it at all.

I am in the habit for the first start of the day of giving it glow for approx 14 seconds just to make it easier on the starter and the battery. Starts and continues to start all day on the first hit of the starter if I do.

I don't think that a "couple of seconds" could make any difference - they need longer than that to work

The more I learn about the County the more I love it! Mine starts without the glow plugs needing heating but I haven’t owned her through a cold winter. Thanks for your feedback, I thought there was something wrong with mine when I didn’t see a timer. I was also worried about cooking the glow plugs and burning them out..... Sounds like everything is normal Glow plug indicator light
