Thanks bee utey, That makes sense given the proximity to the alternator. Yes I think the alternator is only 40w... The previous owner obviously ran 2 batteries but as a ute I think 1 will suffice.
Looks like another part for the storage box.

Update...
After much cleaning and pressure cleaning, I swapped the wheels (thanks to Lewie110) with these black D1's.. removed the gal pipe rock rails, fitted the alternator, heater hoses, new battery. Earthed the oil warning switch, replaced sundry covers and bits... fitted new wipers, fitted county door latch strikers and aligned county doors. Cleaned chassis and sorted rear wiring mess. Found and fitted diff lock switch wiring, put new bolt in limp 4WD selector rod. Soldered fuel return pipe in top of tank, ordered new front bar, new headlight surrounds, new clear lenses and colored globes. Bought new brake slaves and fluid... (next job)
Chasing tray back, trim and steering wheel replacement. Replaced all oils and filters throughout.
Then added some go-faster metal bonnet lettering. Another week or two I'm thinking...

There's always at least one smarty isn't there!
I saw the later models are missing that badge but the blank in the panel is still there. It's yet to be taken off.
Another original bit to be wrapped up and kept until needed.

There's a few around mate, I hear there's several at a wreckers in Dapto, some on gumtree, I'll get one soon but it's not urgent, still plenty of other things to do.
The dimensions you gave me will work well, just looking for a newish one without another make written all over it.
A bonus would be a stiff cargo rail to provide roll protection. Don't want much do I?
