Checked fuses, replaced the 4 x Relay switches, purchased a new battery, cleaned the terminal leads that go on to the battery,

Cleaned and restored all electrical lines to the starter solenoid, turned on the ignition , battery and the ignition lights came on on the dash,
the fuel gauge went from empty to full and back to empty. there was the that light clicking sound you normally get prior to the starter motor engaging,
but nothing happened, just a single light thump,

Left the ignition on for about 10seconds, then I smelt burning odour, turned it off quick smart check under the bonnet,
burning smell appeared to come from the starter area.

Unable to find any auto electricians, who would be prepared to come around and diagnose the problem.
Any practical suggestions, Cheers.

You could try Simon Ryan, Sims Auto Electrics. 0422 717 141. They are mobile and have a large workshop at the Gabba also. My dealings with them have been good and not expensive.

Park on a hill. Roll start. Easy

A second thought. Are you sure it is an electrical problem? Is the engine seized or in hydraulic lock? Pull the injectors and see if it will turn over by hand.

Thanks for your interest. and suggestions how to address same, I was about to remove the starter motor and take it to a auto electrician to check the s/motor and solenoid and repair or replace if necessary. However. I will do as you suggest pull the injectors and manually turn the motor first,

It should be possible to turn the motor by hand without removing the injectors - just have to do it very slowly, allowing compression to bleed off past the rings - easier if the engine has not been started for a while and the rings are dry. I do this when checking tappets.

It looks like it maybe a Hydraulic lock, hopefully and not worse, tried to move the engine by hand , no movement or give. So its not the starter motor.
Have undone the nuts to the angled / vertical bolts which hold the injectors, I have also disconnected the fuel pump feeder lines at the injectors.
I now wish to take off the return fuel line at the top of the 4 injectors but the holding nuts are not budging, are they torque tightened?? if so what torque setting? Thanks.

What's the history of the motor - where did it come from? A lot of the military ones auctioned at Grays have been hydrauliced motors.

Some of the problems have been rather minor also - some people have got a good engine - it is all in the luck of the draw.
