Aaaahhhh. Lightbulb moment. Thats why it was referred to as a T motor earlier. Is it set up for a turbo? It did not have one when I got it 25 years ago. I wonder if its got squirters.
Sorry for being so slow but I was getting the plates confused.
I will put back the cover plate and take off that one by the dipstick. I thought it was for something else.
    Thanks all.

    Got it thanks.
Its unbolted already to drill and tap for an elbow with hose tail. Going in to town tomorrow to get the oil feed pipes made for the alternator and turbo.
Of the four 4BD1,s here this old one I have had for yonks is the only one with that plate.

Blanked off the breather in the intake elbow and tapped it 1/8 NPT ready for the VDO boost gauge.

Set the turbo in the mill and cut a recess and drilled 7/16 ready to tap 1/4 NPT for the VDO EGT gauge.

    Looking good.
I'm assuming you still had welding to do after you took the intake elbow photo

Here is where the intercooler will sit.
Need a couple of 90 degree elbows in 1/2"NPT to 19mm hose tail. I can get brass but would prefer aluminium so less likelyhood of electrolysis.

    Hi Keith
    Any update?

I’m looking for a turbo for the next project. The HX35 or HX40 (no wastegate) look ok.
