    4BD1 double rubber gasket

    Hey gents,

I'm mid assemble on the motor and can't remember how the double rubber sump gasket is arranged....checking the manual the only real instruction is 'fit it'.

I took a bunch of pic's on the tear down 12 months ago but missed this detail.

Playing with it this morning I arrived at the the thin gasket first, then the thick one with the lip up, followed by the pan and the plates.

    TIA for any help,

    Jason

I couldn't get a the thick rubber one to seal, needed to get it done so sikaflexed it on loosely & nipped it up later.

I go the low down from a Isuzu guru on the order the gaskets are fitted.

    1. Add a tiny amount of silicone to the front and rear where the bell housing and front casing join the block. I also trimmed the paper gasket with a razor to the same height as the mounting face. Too much silicone here will swell the rubber.
    2. Fit the thin rubber one to the block (assuming the block is upside down on the engine stand)
    3. Fit the pan
    4. Fit the thick one lip side up (it is an insulator and not a sealer).
    5. Fit the steel plates

Snug up the whole lot....now the pan is acoustically insulated, to a degree, from the engine block.

    Cheers,

    Jason
