my falcon used to do that when the power steering fluid got low and the pump was pumping air with the oil.
check the fluid level.
Thought maybe a bad bearing or perhaps solenoid on the starter at first. When I couldn't isolate the sound, which is like a whirring or whining sound with increasing pitch when increasing rpm's, I took out a pinpoint stethescope.
From what I heard then it narrowed it down to hearing it most clearly near the front crankshaft oil seal near the injection pump, but second loudest at the alternator.
I'll likely take the alternator off and fully test it with an oscilloscope, hopefully just needs a cleaning and repacking the bearings.....but if that's not it, does anyone have any thoughts or experience from tracking down something similar?
The sound itself sounds a bit like a power steering pump going bad (that's not it, but it sounds like it, in sync up and down with rpm's), except in line eith rpm's and not turning the wheel.
Also, it doesn't make the sounds when first cranked and idling, but once its warmed up it consistent with rpm's.
Thanks in advance for input before I get into it.

Alright gents. Thank you all for the suggestions. I have traced it down to what I am calling a tensioner or pulley. It seems it is the bearings within that I am hearing and I'd like to solve the problem before it gets worse, however trying to shoot grease into it didn't help. May need to get bearing sizes and replace/repack OR replace the part itself to address. Does anyone have the Isuzu part number for the part shown in the red box in the attached photo?

Adding another photo of the part now that it's out. Hopefully someone can help me find a replacement. I may be able to take apart to determine bearing size, repack and have a go, but would like to know the part number to replace if needed. Thank you in advance for any help/advice.

Yes you can replace the bearings. Best to use C3 bearings. C3 is a clearance for bearings. The faster they spin they need more clearance. Use double sided seal bearings & take the 2 inside seals out. Unfortunately I do not know the size but got mine from Bearing Service. Paul.
I think I have the bearing numbers mate. Will have a look in the morning.

Righto mate, the bearing is NTN63203LLU/2AS or W203PP dimensions are 40.0 mm OD, 17.0 mm ID and 17.5mm wide. The pulley itself is AYG0403 but I would imagine hard to find. Hopefully your pulley is OK and just need to replace the bearing.
