Reconditioned 4bd1t from china... thoughts?

Yep, that’s about right plus a turbo and any head work required. Been doing a bit of research myself as I may have access to one cheapish that needs some work through a mate who’s a truck mechanic. Not sure what I’d do with said engine yet but I have an RRC and 101 so I’m sure I could glue it into something...😉

I’d find a local engine and rebuild it rather than risk one of unknown anything. At least if you buy a rebuilder, you can usually check the crank, etc before purchase - if they won’t let you drop the sump, I’d walk away.

I have bought 4 of these, on peoples word, never opened them up, have all worked perfect. Guess i am a risk taker[emoji6].
But i wouldn't touch one from frontline unless i knew i was going to build it up.

And that’s a good point mate, they’re ****ing strong engines, so if it was a known good runner and you trust the seller, it’s probably still good for a lifetimes service in an old Landy. 👍

China has some of the most technically advanced engine factory on the planet now.

The now popular Cummins crate engine is developed and made in China. The Chinese factory is new so all the latest technology is used and highly automated

Just saying....4bt1t is an low tech engine. It has been made in China for years........

4bd1 usually found in Chinese excavators....

Troy, knowing that you do a fair bit of remote touring, I back up the comments suggesting you find a local engine and rebuild it. Although the Chinese are capable of making quality parts, for me a Chinese built engine would not give me a feeling of dependable reliability, they can, and do, take shortcuts on quality , so you would never know.
For that sort of money you could build one yourself, and better, especially if you do the hours yourself.

You called around the truck wreckers? Last time I did this they were plentiful (but that was a few years back) - still, they're not what you'd call a rare engine even if they are a bit long in the tooth now, there'll still be plenty out there for the buying.

Just emailed the first Wrecker I found in my area - will let you know what they say. [emoji4]
