Disco propshaft into County

You might be surprised what a Tom Wood shaft landed works out to be?

I needed one on my Deefer as the stock shaft was binding at full droop.
It did have a slight vibe in normal driving, but with muddies, etc it wasn't an issue.
A wide angle prop would've worked too.

Pull the front shaft and confirm.
I'm not sure of the reason why the Stage1 had a longer front output housing (about 30mm from memory) than they used later in the 110's. You might find that the shorter 110 front housing and a standard shaft might work for you.
I've got a ex stage1 box in my County, and was having uni binding issues with a standard front shaft and ~40mm lift. Ended up putting a DC Tom Woods shaft in it to fix it since at the time county LT95's were pretty scarce so getting the shorter front output housing wasn't an option. Should be easy enough to pick one up now with all the ex-army boxes around.

Well I thought I might take the cheat's way out for the time being and bought a second hand Disco 1 propshaft. Yes they're the same length and bolt up but that's only part of the issue. With the prop connected to the transfer case I tried to rotate it in the position it'll be in connected to the diff and it was on the verge of binding. More than half an inch of diff drop would see it bind up :(. A closer inspection of the County prop shaft revealed subtle differences that allow it to operate through an wider angle range....

Huh? A Disco 1 has the same suspension and travel.

Does this have caster correction bushes fitted? That'll cause these problems any day of the week.

Completely stock suspension. I even removed the 2 inch lift springs and went back to stock height springs. Comparing my prop with the disco one there is a massive difference in universal articulation, the County one has 'cut-outs' forged into the flanges to allow for sharper operating angles.

Have re-read the thread and it seems you got rid of the lift to get rid of the vibes.

Did you put the 2" springs in or someone else?

If someone else it is entirely possible it has caster correction bushes in the front radius arms holding onto the diff.

Have exactly the same issue with a County front diff in my POS with a 2" lift. Using the donor diff radius arms that have caster correction bushes and I can feel the front prop vibrate.

The propshaft won't even clear the chassis crossmember with the ****ed up snout angle on the front diff centre, caused by the bushes.

I have a stock set of new Superpro bushes to go in my radius arms next week. I know that will fix the prop vibes, but then I'll either be slotting these county swivels or taking the 2" spring lift out completely to get the caster right.

2" lift shouldn't cause vibe probs alone. 2" lift requires caster correction, preferably by rotating the swivel balls like I had on my old RRC diff.
