Greetings From the GC and My Stage 1

Celebrated 4 Years in Australia this month after moving here from the UK and bought myself a Stage 1!

She needs a bit of work and it's my first Landy, a lot to learn buy chomping at the bit to get stuck into it.

First job is getting her running again as I've been told there is a battery earthing issue. Is there anything I should double/triple check before trying to turn her over with a new battery dropped in, I reckon its been sat for a good 10+ years.

Going to drain and replace all fluids and filters, but is there anything else to be aware of? Any advise would be much appreciated!

    Here she is!

    Cheers,
    Dan.

G'day Dan, and welcome to AULRO. THat's a clean looking stage 1 you have there. I'm guessing it's an Isuzu engined version seeing as how you have put your post in this section. These motors can lie dormant for many moons and still start easily with the addition of a battery. Give it a spin with the starter and see what happens. Sometimes an injector gets gummed up with the fuel sitting there for a long time but it is a simple fix if this does happen. I would try it after all the normal checks.

    ++what Bearman said.
There are two earth straps that can corrode where they join the chassis and the battery.
One joins the battery -ve to the chassis, the other joins the chassis to the engine, near the starter motor.
Just make sure your fuel supply is clean and the filter filled and replaced and give it a go.
As Brian said I would bet the 4bd1 fires up fairly easiiy.

Mine (in my Perentie) fired up on the diesel i squirted into the cylinders to check the engine was free before I connected the fuel.
Gave me a hell of a fright !!

    Good luck !!

As you promised, she fired up fairly easily after checking over everything.

Was more worried I wouldn't get it to stop considering the wiring mess I am dealing with!

Tried to bleed to clutch today to see if I could find a gear, but master and slave are shot, have removed them and the replacements are on the way.

I thought so too!, just need to adjust the idle as it begins to shake like crazy when I come off the pedal.

    HaHa!!
Welcome to the world of the 4bd1!
Increasing the idle will reduce the shaking but it will never completely disappear.
The idle does smooth out a bit when the engine is warm as well.
    Great motors though.

    Enjoy!!

    Update:

Replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders and drove her back and fourth along the driveway no problems.

I finally got around to finding the VIN and a little confused by one of the letters.

    SALLBCAV1AF52....

    Shouldn't this 'V' be a 'Z'?

    Cheers,
    Dan.
