I've fitted a CAV fuel filter in place of the sedimenter. Filters are cheap and a decent size so won't block easily.
Quick and easy to change too if you happen to pick up some dirty fuel.
I haven't had to change or rebuild a lift pump, but can't imagine there would be any rocket science involved.
Its been a about 5 years since I did my water pump rebuild but at that time genuine rebuild parts for the water pump were still easily available. Hopefully the same case for the lift pump.
