First up, whats your budget?
Choices that are available that i'm aware of are,
R380
Isuzu MSA/MXA
Tremec tr4050
Could anyone recommend what would be the best 5 speed gearbox to install on the series 3 stage 1 landrover to replace the LT95, would it drop the revs much at 100kph.
Also, has anyone done the power steer conversion and is it a big job, can anyone recommend a company to buy the power steer kit from? Cheers, Scotty

Sorry Guys, i should have mentioned in my original post that the stage 1 I have got is the Isuzu 4BD1 motor with the 4 speed box. I am trying to find the strongest 5 speed box that I can get to go behind that motor to drop the revs down substantially when it is sitting on a 100kph as it is screaming its lungs out and is as noisy as…
Also, has anyone done a power steer conversion to one of these and what company did you use. The only good thing is i don’t need to go to the gym after taking it for a drive :-). Cheers, Scotty

At the risk of asking a stupid question - are you sure that your LT95 box has the Isuzu High range gears? It sounds like you may have the lower transfer case ratio from a V8? Is it possible that the box has been swapped in from a V8 at some stage?
Apologies if you've checked this possibility, but the description of the engine 'screaming' sounds strange.

I've got a Stage One V8, and have looked at fitting a R380/LT230 and LT85/LT230, neither will fit without modifying the seatbox and floor. The R380 is too tall in the back and hits the seat box, the LT230 hi/low casing hits the floor/seatbox.
The output flanges of the LT230 are fairly close to where they are with the LT95, within 25mm from my quick measurements.
Hope this helps,
Tim
R380/LT230 on the left, LT95 on the right.
