I drew most of the major components to get sizing and positioning right. But I did not draw all of them, maybe one or two left out.

I skimped putting in some of the little details, that didn't really need drawing in.

Changes on the fly. One important part was drawn as 1" round bar, which in the real thing I replaced with 1" square bar. Plus, in the drawing for 1" round bar I did not show a machined slot, which was machined into the 1" square bar. This part definitely needs redrawing.

And I did not draw in the pesky springs - something I'll need to practice.

Anyway, I'll try to make some adjustments to the drawing, which will help refresh my skills in using the program.

I've not filleted weld joints but might do so to make it a bit clearer.

I may even take some detailed photos of some of the more important aspects to supplement the drawing. It's just going to take a bit longer than I thought.

Looked at The Good Oil and seems a good place for items not vehicle specific like using a multimeter, crimping and heat shrinking wire etc.

l might post in the Isuzu section given the focus is on the engine and what might go with it. Everything attached to the engine is an accessory...what vehicle would you like to wear with your engine today - we have a cheap line of Chinese OKA's just come in with Vesace leather trimmed steering wheels...we have a lovely choice in pendant transfer cases...and no, the Land Rover gearbox does not make you look fat (yeah as if! You should have gone for the MSA5G)...and what sort of shift pattern would you like, mechanically supported or wire, and colour?

Heck, I am struggling to design headlight clips! But I've never actually "designed" anything, I usually make it up as I go along. This is different, I actually need it to work 🫰

Anything you could produce would be a big help in getting started. I am currently modifying someone else's design so I can run some old but hardly used Ryobi NiCad tools on M18. The principle works fine, and beats chucking the things away, and all those amp hours 😊😎

Good question. He's currently keeping quiet. But he's a fair fitter. Learned on Mil firearms, but expanded to bigger stuff.

Most design is an iterative process. I make most things with two or three prototypes first, before I'm happy with a usable item...

For those of you making the switch to the MSA gearbox, what are you using for your transmission tunnel? I have the LT77 tunnel and wasn't sure if I needed to swap out for a different tunnel.

I was lucky to get the 4BD1-T and MSA-5G gearbox mated with the Isuzu bell housing and clutch guts. Assume you have the LRover clutch stuff if you have the bell. Otherwise, a failed MSA for spares with attached bell and clutch.

Any information of use to you here? More than half way down Bush65 says 'Note the main differences to the Isuzu truck version from that period are the special, Land Rover only, flywheel housing, and 275 vs 300 mm clutch, and different starter motor.' Not sure these are Australian military specs or for the civilian variant.

If I get the NPR truck setup I would also have the Isuzu bellhousing and clutch guts, so I don't think that would be a problem. More wondering what gearbox tunnel people have used with the MSA and if they had to modify it. My current setup has the tunnel for a LT77 gearbox, and I wasn't sure if that tunnel would work or if a different tunnel was needed.

Not familiar with the LT77 and the tunnel referred to. Where does the tunnel sit in the train or conga line of things joined together?

In my case I got the 4BD1T, the Isuzu bell housing with clutch guts, and the MSA-5G. The MSA-5G gearbox at that point is set up for rear 2wd. On the path to four wheel drive the rear cover plate is thrown away. The back of the MSA-5G then presents a flat back ideal to take an adapter (or tunnel?) to which you then bolt the LT230 transfer case.

The adapter or tunnel is either fabricated from steel, cast in aluminium, or machined from aluminium. You also need a custom spud shaft that connects to the MSA-5G output shaft, then runs through the adapter or tunnel, then through the input gear in the LT230. You now get 4wd.

The only manual gearbox I've stripped was from a series III - even now I could not tell you what model of gearbox. Spent a week of cold Sydney winter evenings on it to replace a 25 cents flat spring in a synchromesh cage. Part of a ball bearing detent system. Oh, I lie! Does a mower gearbox count, stuffed governor?
