Or Dave Cooke might be able to help? He is on FB on the West Oz Series page.

Hi all I have LT95 gearbox on my Isuzu 4DB1 and it has forever been difficult on some occasions to shift into 2nd gear from 3rd. I understand this is a common problem and this did not bother me however I can't get into 2nd gear at all now and double clutching does not help.
I continue to drive around in the short term without 2nd i.e. shift from 1st straight into 3rd etc.... but I will need to repair ASAP. I'm guessing an expensive rebuild is on the agenda however would like to avoid if possible any suggestions?
Currently running 20W/50 oil in engine / gearbox and transfer case.
I'm assuming its not the clutch slave or master since operating 1,3 and 4 gears is trouble free.
DIY rebuild may be beyond my abilities and therefore unfortunately may need assistance with this one. Can anyone recommend a technician in Perth or WA south west who has previous experience with the LT95 and may be able to undertake a rebuild (if required).

I used to drive a series three LRover in the late 70's. Going home after work in Sydney traffic I suddenly found I only had 3rd and 4th. Culprit was a broken detent spring located in the 1st/2nd synchronisation cage (synchromesh). The spring was a small rectangle of flat spring steel with a crimp in the middle to secure on a ball bearing. From memory there were three of these flat springs in each cage. One broken spring allowed the cage to fall out of alignment. Back then the spring cost about 25 cents.
Just a punt that you have the same issue - not familiar with the internals of your LT95 gearbox.
Thanks workingonit there was a small flat bit of steel in the oil when I drained it so what you explained could be the culprit.
I have noticed that very rarely ie one in 100 times the box will operate into 2nd gear perfectly but for most part it will not engage.
1, 3 and 4 gears all working as normal.
I guess the only way to find out is to drop the box and diagnose.
If anyone has a reconditioned box for sale to swap out then let me know. Ashcroft no longer do the LT95.
Thanks Dazza sorry to hear about Maurie. I will contact Transmissions R Us and see what they can do.
Since driving last few weeks (without 2nd gear) I have noticed 4th gear is now starting to grind its way into gear now as well. Definitely time for a replace / rebuild before things get worse.
I have found a LT95 (pictured) for sale in QLD from an early Range Rover.
Does anyone know if this is a direct swap gearbox for Isuzu 4BD1 County?

There is no history with the gear box for sale is there any way of checking quality of the box / shifting problems prior to purchase / installation or is it just a gamble wait and see after its installed and hope for the best?
Not sure to swap with unknown replacement or spend $$$ rebuild existing.
No, there is quite a bit that needs to be done before you can change it over. Notably the bellhousing, rear output housing and flange, handbrake setup, speedo gears, Intermediate shaft, transfer input gear and then you still don't know if it ok internally. Most second hand gearboxes for sale are removed from the vehicle for the reason they are faulty! Just going by that number (2) on the top it will be what is called a "long throw" shifter mechanisn on it which doesn't suit your gearlever. Best to get yours refurbished or do a reco changeover.

Thanks all for your info and advice.
S&G Gearbox Exchange in Perth will do a rebuild for me later this month. I will post the outcome here hopefully some good news coming.....
