    Yes - the filter on the Landrover installation is different from the filter in other applications, as the filter had to point up to avoid hitting the front diff (and to make it less likely to get knocked off by sticks). But catalogues that list by Landrover rather than Isuzu seem to mostly get it right.

    Buy yourself an industrial engine filter housing (cheap) and use screw on filters. Mine uses a Ryco Z419 I think and you can easily get better quality filters. It still makes a mess when you change it but they are available everywhere and you can easily remote mount a filter if you want and reduce the mess when you change it.
