Those who are scared of change, will never find the benefits associated with it.
These engines were built 20 years ago, designed earlier than that. Turbos have changed significantly in that time and Isuzu never cared about landrovers when they were drawing this engine up either.

Our requirements are different, so the solution we each arrive at is different too. That's why I'm putting a variable vane turbo on mine shortly.:)

Going from memory, and without digging out my Donaldson technical manual, I think Donaldson filter recommendations are sized to give full flow at 80% clogged.

I understand that and will enjoy reading what you have to say about the results of newer turbos.

What I'm trying to say though is Isuzu have a spot for oil drain back, there's a spot for oil supply, there is a spot for supply and return coolant. It's all there, so why bodgi up your engine when Isuzu have already designed the points and parts to assist with adding a turbo.

larns do you have the part no for the oil pick up discribed by John, between the filter and oil cooler.

I would like to drain oil back the same way as a 4bd1T. How did you do it when you converted your n/a motor?

Also, what turbo manifold do you have.

Finally what size air to air intercooler is required for this size motor?

but aren't all those oil supply/return points on the inlet side of the engine? I ran my oil drain on the shortest possible route back to the engine i could find with the biggest size tube i could fit - 20mm i think.

Oil supply on my 4BD1T turbo comes from the distribution block at the rear end of the oil cooler. Yes it's the intake side of the engine.

That oil line has twice oiled my firewall and once mortally wounded a turbo. I rebuilt that turbo myself and today am embarking on a 6 hour remote drive to test it.

Here are some pics taken of the turbo oil and water lines on a stock 4BD1-T from an Isuzu truck. The turbo was Garrett and didn't have a wastegate.

Oil feed from fitting at inlet of oil cooler. Oil return into crankcase below turbo. Water feed from thermostat housing. Water return at inlet of water pump.

The thermo housing and water feed is very different from mine. The water return would be difficult as it means replacing the housing (or possibly putting in a T in the radiator return hose).

The oil feed is just replacing that small mounting plate/block with 2 bolds. The oil return also looks easy just replacing a plate held by 2 bolts with a plate with a 90degree bend. Maybe this is the plate justin was talking about.

I have a japanese import 4BD1T, originally came with the IHI wastegated turbo (not water cooled). I don't have any provision on my thermostat housing or water pump for those lines shown, but the oil feed and return were once identical.

I've just covered 1150km with my home rebuilt T25. I've convinced myself that home rebuilding without rebalancing works and water jackets don't need to be hooked up.:)
