Out of interest, glider tow planes usually have flaps on the cowl that they close as soon as they have released the glider. This is to stop the rapid cooling of the air cooled engines as they rush back for another tow.
I'm not sure how relevant it is but I thought I'd tell the story anyway!

Fitted mine the other day.
I used a button on the floor to turn in on when pressed.
Had to bore out the flanges a bit to fit the exhaust pipe.
Worked realy well should have got one ages ago, I use it all the time is saves the brakes.
In my county on long down hill runs I always found the 3rd was to fast and found myself riding the brake to much. When in second the gearbox and exgine sounded like it was going to explode. How I slow down with the exhaust break nearly all the time.

I have one on both FC,s. One a 4BD1 and the other a 6.2 Chev. Problem is the relay is wired to the brake light through another switch I usually leave off untill I want to use the brake. As it is not used often enough when I want it, it is seized up and wont work. The butterfly rod seizes in the bush if not used often.
Well I would change in to a floor switch I used a starter type push button switch and made up a little housing for it as i didn't want to drill the floor.Quote:

I would use it all the time, it would have to make the brakes last longer. I does mean a lot more gear changing as the exhaust brake is much more effective at higher revs. You get lazy with the 4bd1 torque at low revs and stay in highers gears than you normaly would.

I had one on there before I turboed it (standard crappy exhaust) it is operated via a switch on the gearstick (being a leco I wasnt going out of my way to hook up micro switches under pedals etc that would mean using to many brain cells :D) I found now that I hav a 3inch exhaust I need a butterfly with a 3inch I.D so that I do not restrict flow but problem is finding one :( tried heaps of wreckers even tried making one out of thick stainless but when tig welded it warped :o
could go and buy one of the fancy ones off the US racetruck sites but they cost $1200 look very nice though
So whats wrong with putting it on the brake light switch. Take foot off the loud pedal, cuts fuel, tap brake pedal enough to work EB via lights or push harder to work foot brakes as well. Thats why I have the other switch to turn it off if sitting at stop lights etc.
the more switches/connections the more to fault find when it plays up is the way i thought
