Yeah sled pulling is a whole different game, they're being trailered home anyway so lasting the day or not doesn't make much difference. I think most rules prohibit intercoolers, so they just inject water for cooling.
The T25 I used to run spoiled me a little, the T2560 I'm currently running doesn't get out of bed until maybe 1600rpm. Sure it pulls to the governor but it's left me feeling a bit ripped off down low.
Yeah the book also had a table of how long the engines/turbos are rated for most being rated at 40seconds :o
Your injection pump has a boost compensator on it doesnt it ? Seeing as you said it does not get out of bed until 1600rpm you wouldnt have as much smoke down low like the rest of us without the compensator ?
Yes I have a boost compensator, it starts to remove the stops around 4psi boost and is full open by 7psi.
Normally no smoke off boost but occasionally you get caught in the transition, mostly when towing.
I find that if I have around 4psi boost there is no smoke but once I get below around 4psi and load it up it will blow alot of smoke but then again it will be to do with driving style.
another thing I found in my reading was for a 4bd1 the timing advance is 13° and for a N/A 4bd1the timing is 10° does this matter or is it just useless info ? Why I ask is because when I got spill timing done on my tdi it went 100% better but it has a VE pump just wondering if its worth getting it done on the isuzu ?
Chief, I have left my NA engine timing alone, as it is quiet and performs very well with the turbo, but yes can be smoky if you try uphill starts in 2nd......good for annoying cyclists though :). Maybe I'll advance it a little at some point in time and see what happens, but I have heard it won't really help that much if you are running a NA pump. I'll let you know if and when I have a play with it.Quote:

Thanks justin I would be interested to see the outcome :) I also found that with getting the timing done on the tdi it gave it more down low,smoother power delivery and also as you said it changes the noise of the engine but most noticble at idle it makes them sound like a diesel should :)
I was taking to a mate and he said they could do the spill timing for me but theres nothing they can do for the smoke but he said there was a few he has seen that get the pump cam ground in a certain way to stop the smoke but its costly :o

The Laminova is just a different design of Water-air intercooler. I suppose it would be classified as a tube and fin design.Quote:

The main advantage is the large number of very fine fins. Which should (in theory) give better heat transfer and lower pressure drop compared to other core designs.

Looks interesting Ben. Is there a standard size intercooler to fit the manifold or is it a custom fit, and what sort of cost is the intercooler?

They are certainly not the cheapest option for an intercooler.
Bush65 (where is he these days?) is building an 8-core Laminova intercooler for his monster compound turbo 4BD1T.
I am aiming for mine to become the world's slowest intercooler fabrication :D . Now that Offender90 has relocated to Adelaide and selfishly taken his welder with him, looks like I first need to buy a welder...
If anyone in Perth has a mill I can use to mill the top off my manifold I would be happy to repay them in beer???
