    EGT Gauges....Which one ?

    I would like to fit an EGT gauge, but I haven't had anything to do with them yet. There are a few different one's around. If you have one already, what type do you have, digital, dial ? How much did you pay ? Some seem pretty expensive.
    Are there different types of probes.....good one's, bad one's ??
    Can you simply drill and tap a thread into a cast exhaust manifold to install the probe ?

    VDO ... Last for ever.... If going pre turbo as you know it all has to come off to drill and tap. Post turbo (Dump pipe) just leave it all on and drill and weild the threaded fitting on and jobs done. Most will say post turbo is not so good as a big temperature drop and gas density. I allow 200 deg drop. 600 = 800

    This is what i fitted to my Defender works a treat and cheap as well , The only thing about it i did,nt like was the size of the thermo coupling , way to short to mount in the Tdi manifold , Its about 5mm long so i got a 100mm that is just right

    He said to ask for one of a Chinese EGT meters and probe M8 X1
    The prices and packages on the net are different to asking over the phone.

    I rang on the 1st September ...... the package arrived on the 2nd September costing us $98.95 including postage.

    Our EGT is normally used in a Ultralite motor.

    As we are still getting our vehicle back on the road so I can't tell you how it works yet.

    I have the EMS2 sold by the Entertainer here on this forum. EGT, Water Temp, Gearbox temp, Turbo Boost, Volts, hour meter, artificial horizon, R380 mainshaft wear (joking on that one) plus most things it measures can be alarmed (eg EGT above 700deg).

    Visit a truck wrecker and look for an Isspro. They are a top shelf line. Were standard equipment in a number of North American brands. Some are just a pyrometer and others include a boost gauge. As a point of interest the thermocouple is always fitted post-turbo in heavy trucks.

    I have VDO same as all my gauges.
    Price$$$$$
    Have no EGR so welded a nut on the plug and Taped in there.

    Believe a MUST have for Turbo.
