It is the Jidico engine stop/start solenoid used on 4BD1's. The bag is to keep it out of the s++t. The bag also keeps in any water from wet work thus rusting out the gadget.
I've been wondering for a while now, what's in the blue bag?
It sits in the back corner of the engine bay, behind the brake booster.
A cable comes out the bottom and ends up here.
I was getting all excited about a hand throttle, but I can't reach that far.

never saw the reason for doing away with a stop cable though.....

I always thought that if it fails I'll just go back to a manual cable... ut it hasn't yet (finds some wood to touch)![]()
I thought there was a thread on this a while back. As I recall the grease tends to dry out over the years and people were advising to pull it apart, clean and regrease it. Still getting around to doing mine though.
By the way, the fuse for the relay that sits on the clutch (or brake) box is usually found fitted in-line behind the instrument panel up against the fire wall. Basically the last place you'd look.
