You'll be doing them a favour. I'm surprised the environmentalists aren't beating the war drums already.
How many litres of oil and fuel are there just waiting to enter the sea?

Well, I guess it's time for a costs benefits analysis;
transport of vehicle to bris : ~$1000
fwd Hire, ex Darwin :$~200
Ferry to Bathurst Island rtn:$?
60lt of WD40 :$200
At the very least the chassis would be viable.($5k?) I would expect the axles (complete) would be useable($3k?), even allowing for a little resurfacing.
The BIG questions;
BlkNight/ Anybody know if it's likely that the ADF would allow salvage?
It is below the high tide mark, so does sea salvage cover this situation?
Or because it is Def/ CoA property, all bets are off?
Dave.
if its still there Id be getting it out, my money says that they will make an effort to recover it at some point tho
If I could get the ARN I could probabley ask the computers nicely whats happening to it....
If I have to goto tindal again it wont be there much longer than after my first weekend off.
In your dreams guys. A mate of mine went out with the ARMY to recover it, he said that there was nothing to winch off and the landholders wouldn't let them bring anything onto the island that had long enough rope and weighed enough to pull it out. It's well and truely in there seeing as the tide has been in and out over a hundred times now.
It is coming out though, it won't be left there.
:twobeers:
Well it was a interesting read of how everyone was going to get out:)
They may have to chopper it out after all if the landholders won't let them bring in any heavy form of transport there to salvage it:(
Mrs ho har:angel:
they dont need anything heavy.....
Its called a tirfor and a ground anchor....
hell even better take out an LCM8 drop the ramp and beach it up behind the rover a couple of wooden planks as ramps up onto the ramp of the LCM8.
tirfor go on OR
since theres enough room on an LCM8 to put an APC and a landy take out one of the recovery varient M113's and just use its winch to haul it up onto the LCM8.
so larns,pick me up on the way past;)
Im seriously considering it...
hey sir, If I can have it and a week off can you get me and fozzy onto the island?
