I have been told not to fit the EGT sensor before the turbo but to fit it just post the turbo which should be about 250 to 300 Dc lower that pre turbo.
The lodgic is there is a chance after a wile of the sensor disintergrating and stuffing the turbo, if it is post the turbo then no harm done. Thin chance though. So that is what I have done, Max temp 500 Dcelcious.

The Isuzu 4J series engines (4JB1T, 4JG2T, 4JH1T etc) all use 5 series IHI turbos. The early ones were B series and are servicable, the later ones are F series and are throwaway.
What do you mean by thte bridge across the center of the turbo? Can you draw a diagram to show this?
I just had fitted a Auber EGT and probe, post turbo.
I can hit 750 reading without too much drama. I cant imagine what it must read plowing through soft sand. That reading seems high. Could it be reading F instead of C?

I'm pretty sure the Auber gauges are set to deg F by default. Others have reported the same sort of high readings, and then found that the were set to F.
750*C post turbo would be nasty.
From memory its pretty easy to change - just have to work your way through the menu to set it. I'm assuming you got a copy of the instructions with the gauge. Let us know if you haven't.

It's a good idea to go through the whole programming so you set the alarm properly as well as the celsius scale. Not that hard to do.

For a post-turbo position I don't think anyone will give you a definitive answer as it depends how much temperature drop happens across the turbine wheel.
The general consensus is that pre-turbo sensor location is much better , as it tells you what sort of temp you are subjecting the turbo to and what is actually coming out of the engine.
Pre-turbo max temp from the manufacturer is 750*C (earlier in this thread I think), and pretty sure I recall reading that the temp drop across the turbo could be around 150-200*C.
If you are putting the EGT gauge on so that you can do some tweaking and know you aren't killing things - I'd be fitting it pre-turbo.

1st pre turbo definately. never heard of a thermocouple disintergrating and taking out the turbo. I run a max of around 650 deg C
So all you turbo geeks, here is a question.
4BD1(rebuilt with turbo kit) running a TD5 turbo, 15psi boost, running a straight through 2 1/2" exhaust about 5 MT long. Would running a 3" mandrel exhaust decrease the EGT's and help performance. I have a feeling that the 2 1/2" system could be restricting it.
Bit hard to get answers on this one so all your thoughts appreciated.

Yes it will help performance. How much depends on a thousand factors including how much you'll drive in ways that will show it.
My rangie still runs a 2.25" exhaust. Been meaning to change that for some time but a recent ski trip to europe has decimated my toy fund for the forseeable future.
