    Removing Injectors

A question for the brains trust.

I have a slight bit of fuel around the base of number 3 and 4 injectors, thought I'd change the cone shaped gaskets on the bottom of all the injectors to nip it in the bud before it gets any worse.

The injectors don't look like they have been removed for the 17 years since it was assembled, I removed the fuel pipes going to and from the injector body, the 2 nuts from the wings on each side but cannot get the injector to budge, have I missed something some am I being too gentle with the pry bar?

Even try 2 screwdrivers or tyre levers. One under each side of the injector wings and pry until it comes out. It is unlikely that they will be so tight that there will be any damage removing them.

there is a specialist tool for it.

it looks like a bent crowbar.

I usually use a pair of hardwood chocks and pry bars under the outside edge of the mounting bolt bracket on the injector.

Any-one with a part number for the bent crowbar thing?

Shame there is nothing like a steering wheel puller, these injectors are really stuck, I put all my weight on my pry bar and really big screwdriver and had a bounce ... nothing! Got out two 2 ft pry bars and a 2kg lumpy hammer, number one is out, not 1mm of movement from any of the others, might see if I can get my hands on a small slide hammer and some shackles to go under the injector wings.

PS I re-read my original post, should have said 27 years not 17 years.

put it all back together and run the engine up to temp first, that usually loosens them up, if that doesnt work let them soak and cool down with some diesel

Bringing it up to temp did'nt help, I tried that one this morning, also tried a diesel soaked rag wrapped around the injector body.

Put a few rags over the top of them and crank the engine over. All the better if there is a little diesel in the pot too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, put the glow plugs back in leave, the fuel lines disconnected, and the screws holding the injector in place removed, throw some old towels over the lot and crank, the pressure from the cylinder will hopefully push the injectors out! Sounds like a plan.

    Injectors

Once you do get them out make sure you give them a good coating of Antisieze or equivilant before reinstalling them.
