Another turbo question-- or 2

Well ive just picked up a garret t25 and with what i can work out off the part no's and the garret web site info it has the following specs

From what i found its a standard nissan s13 sr20 det turbo with M24 cast into the comp housing
GT2541
P/N 466113-2
comp A/R .80 ,54.36mm wheel, 62 trim
Turbine A/R .64, 53mm wheel ,60 trim

I have the standard IHI top mount manifold and ive read here that with a bit of elongation work with a die grinder the T25 will bolt up to it tho a adaptor can easly be fabbed up if need be .

This is going to be a suck it and see process as with what ive read and info i have gained from other sources this turbo i have is not the optimum but will surely make some good progress and being the T25 its easly swapped for a better turbo of the same housing when i find the the right one which im told would be the GT2560R with a .64 turbine housing :D

I rekon it will too and it will be the start of the learning curve on turbo diesel and with the WTA cooler i have i should make good power like about 120HP at the rubber with much the same economy :cool:

Hi Chris,

That turbo you have will work very well for you for between 7 and 10 psi. The roller bearing equivalent will just give you more instant boost lower in the rev range. But that one will perform quite well. The exhaust end is just the right size too.

I believe this type of turbo, or if you can get your hands on a ball bearing type, is the best for someone looking for fairly even and reliable power across the middle of the rev range and is very reasonably priced being ex-sr20 turbo's.

Any turbo is better than none :(. (lucky bugger)

Hi Chris,

It is all fixed. Although I had an interesting experience when filling the transfer case back up, holding the funnell with 1 hand and a 9 litre bucket full of gearbox oil with the other whilst sitting on the driver's seat. I had a fleeting thaught "Maybe I should have tied the funnel to something so I can hold the bucket with 2 hands." A few seconds later the bottom of the bucket slipped and low and behold I had a picturesque oil waterfall inside the cabin and cascading down the t/case all over the floor of the garage below.:o:( :wasntme:

Anyhow, its nearly been a year without a CDL. Now nothing can stop me.:twisted:

I'm scanning ebay as we speak for a turbo like yours. Its exciting turbo shopping.

Let us know how that white 110 goes mate.

It'll do more than 7-10 if you want it to. The smaller T25 i was running (51mm compressor wheel, 0.49 A/R exhaust) would do 20psi. But 15 is a sensible number, as you push the boost higher the turbo will choke sooner, 15psi should stilll provide decent push to the rev-limiter where higher boost might choke the engine off sooner. My small T25 was an exhaust brake by 3000rpm when pushing 20psi.
This 54mm T25 has the same compressor side as the 300tdi turbos.

Those ball bearing turbos aren't rebuildable so can be quite expensive to repair when they wear out. The bushing turbos are more tolerant of oil issues and can be rebuilt for under $100 in parts.

I also have another t25 that has a .49 A/R turbine and a .60 A/R compressor i figure it to be to small and like you said dougal it would be a 3000 rpm exhaust break tho i rekon it would be good on say a 3.0L and smaller deisel

At lower boost levels the small T25 is great. But past 15psi it's operating range gets shorter faster. If you want to run 15psi max and no intercooler then I still recommend it.
I loved the low down punch it had, was fantastic offroad and had instant response to the loud pedal.

I'm now running a diy T2560 (T25 turbine with 0.64 housing and 60mm T28 compressor wheel). Lots more up top, it pulls strongly to my 3,600rpm rev limiter but I miss the low end. I have a GT2256V in the garage I need to fit one day.

Yep i thought it my be ok for instant response but i will trial the larger t25 with the WTA cooler i have its a fair size cooler and has a small car ally rad for the coolant and i will make up a header tank that will hold a couple of litres more coolant .

Im hoping to find time in the next few weeks to fit it up and give it a go as my county is not a daily driver and can sit for a few weeks while i toy with it :D
