With wiring, don't just check that connections are tight. Use a multimeter to check "continuity and resistance". Seen plenty of tight connections that had poor contact because of dirt, corrosion, oil, etc. :o:eek:

As stated - the regulator will adjust the field current until the voltage it sees is right - if there is a bad or open connection on either the voltage sense wire or the regulator earth, it will tell the alternator to up the voltage.
So while the regulator may be faulty, a bad connection or broken wire is more likely. I had the same thing years ago when the 110 was left parked at Tin Can Bay for two months - came good after a few kilometres. I suspect a bad connection that came good with vibration after the isuzu had been running for a while!

I think the problem has been fixed. When i checked inside the reg, i moved the position to the wing/mudguard lip, so it would be easier to change when the new one arrived. The problem hasnt happened since. I am assuming that the regulator had a poor earth in its origional position.
thanks for your help.

I just went to fix my 120", seeing as I feel like crap and better than doing nothing, the alternator light has been flickering for.......a little while:angel:, with the Voltmeter indicative of high voltage at times, so off I go, grab the reg fron the spare Isuzu wreck in the paddock, plug it in, its worse, alt light on solid, no regulating at all, plug old one back in, same, light on solid:mad:
So have a think, what's changed? well, I;ve played with undisturbed wiring so look further to the alternator, ha!, stupid plug had worked its way loose, clean it up, plug it back together and all fixed:D no flicker, charging perfectly
