Sorry to rain on the parade and I feel for Vern, however this is the very issue I was indicating when I discussed replacement mainshafts. But seemed to get flamed for suggesting the notion.

To build a new shaft for a series is the only way to go.I was only trying to point out that to pay big money or time to degrade an Isuzu shaft to something smaller than a series was not .Alignment becomes even more of an issue and imagine the cost and work involved in the unlikely event of a breakage .Heres another way machine flange to a sprocket,a sprocket splined to a adaptor shaft and a duplex chain connecting them together.A slinger on the lay shaft and you have lubrication and misalignment covered:cool:

Not sensitive skin, just observing numerous comments indicating it was a silly thought bubble!
An awful lot of negative comments, immediately before one of the adapter shafts breaks
What happened to Vern's shaft is just as likely to happen to a custom mainshaft.
However instead of a quick job to replace a broken adaptor shaft you instead need to pull the gearbox to bits.
I like to minimise the number and complexity of custom components in a vehicle I take to remote locations. Especially critical components.
That is exactly my thoughts on this ben. If i could just remove the pto cover, remove the input gear and swap the shaft over would be so simple.
But no, i have to remove the transcase whilst laying in the dirt at a campground.
What could be a 1hr job, has now turned into a 5-6hr a job.
...and if it was a custom mainshaft that broke you would have already called RACV Total Care and arranged for the rangie to be shipped back home.
Look on the bright side Damien, there are MUCH worse places than Tassie east coast to be broken down, and you still have Aulro providing support, entertainment and replacement parts :)

To right steve, i would have burnt it to the ground😊
Actually didn't bother calling racv, just want to fix it and get back on the road and keep on moving.
Will go back to camp soon and remove it all.
