O.K. MSA gurus a question for you. Sheldon has delivered my 5P box and conversion kit but I need to swap the Land Rover/4BD1 flywheel and flywheel housing for the truck version. As luck would have it I have an early truck engine with the early housing with the separate main bearing housing but the wrong flywheel. I may be able to trade in the LR part for the turbo flywheel but I'm having an issue with the spigot bearing housing.
Does the Land Rover one need to be removed and re-fitted with the Isuzu one or can I merely replace the sintered bronze bearing with one for the Isuzu?
Also the truck engine came with a 10mm spacer ring (fits between the flywheel housing and the gearbox bell housing) do I need to use this part? Or is it for something else?
I don't recall a spacer ring, i definitely don't have it in mine.
The landy spigot itself needs to be removed to fit the isuzu bearing.
As for the flywheel, i ended up purchasing a new one direct from isuzu, was around $600, and an excedy clutch for similar dollars. There is also 2 different throw out bearings to choose from
Any ideas or tricks in removing the Land-Rover spigot bush holder?
What's the difference between the throwout bearings and which one to choose? (and why?)
I think i got mine out with a hammer maybe, it was a long time ago i really can't remember how i did it.
Throw out bearing has to slide over the sleeve on the input shaft of the gearbox, there are 2 different size sleeves.
Managed to pop around to KLR today on the way to the "Tank Shed" where Brad gave me his trick/process to remove the spigot bearing.
Drill and tap a hole in the base of the spigot housing fit a grease nipple and then hydraulic out the spigot. So that's my job for tomorrow! [bigsmile1]
Great source of info and gear that mob.
Haha thats how i did mine, drilled a hole in it. My memory is shocking[emoji4]
Is it just the bronze spigot that needs swapping, due to slightly different bore sizes? Or is the 5p style bush very different ie its housing is different to what is currently in place. If its just a bush swap is it possible to adapt this method used on a Tdi300 - might save drilling and tapping the spigot holding housing in the 4bd1, if I understand correctly (haven't had to tackle this on a 4bd1 myself so not entirely familiar the issue you are having to deal with).

Completely different system the Land Rover version has a steel bush holder that looks a little bit like a top hat where the brim fits inside the flange on the back of the crank with the oil sintered bronze bush sitting in the end of the top.
The Isuzu system is a bearing in the centre of the flywheel. I can't fit the truck flywheel onto the crank without removing the Land Rover spigot bush holder first.
