Did you not pick up my previous post that I am using a 1.222 ratio box out of a Disco 1 and Ashcrofts have already sent me the 1.003 ratio gearset to suit my 1.222 box suffix so I can swap back to 1.222 at any time, provided I have the input gear re-cut for the adapter shaft.
Of the ratios were the same as ttr he 5R, then with the 1.003 case it would be geared way to tall.
I have just changed mine fron a 5G with 1.003 to a 5R with 1.192 as i found with the 5G setup 4th and 5th were to tall.
I did try the 5G with a 1.222 case and it wasn't that bad, would have been good in a far heavier vehicle and or towing.
Is the splitter an overdrive in all gears?

    Thought I would drop in.

How do you run the 3rd axle drive with the 230?
Diana saw my rig at the auctions earlier.

I am running the 5G with the LT 95 T,box . Lately the gear change has been getting stiff. I pulled the top off the 5G and the main gearset has moved forwards by about 5mm.
I suspect the nut has come loose but have yet to inspect it.
The way we built it the whole G,box and T,box has to come out as one then the T,box guts removed to get to the fixings that hold the boxes to the spacer housing.
I was thinking that if the housing was cut in half and two more flanges welded in with the bolts on the outside , the T,box could be unbolted leaving the G,box in place. The splined adapter would then slide off for removal.

    Hi Keith

Mine is running an SMC through-drive on the intermediate axle, similar system to the G-Wagen 6x6.

There is a shaft parallel to the diff pinion which runs below the axle halfshaft. This shaft has a locking open diff, one end of which drives the pinion via a Morse chain and at the rear of the housing there is a drive flange for the drive shaft to the rear axle assembly. Unlike yours this system provides constant 6x6 and locks simultaneous with the transfer box CDL.

The down side of this system is that it has less inter axle articulation than your Perentie 6x6/LT95 system. The LT95 is unique in its ability to provide drive to the rear axle, originally developed for the driven trailers. (BTW: the 6x6 conversion was done on my vehicle for Land Rover Fleet Sales by Reynolds Boughton, Scottorn Trailers factory. One of the two companies who made driven trailers for the 101.)

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

That information on the 5P/5G ratios is different to what I was told when I accepted the purchase. Given the crawler ratios in the low gears a 1.003 may be essential.

I have been informed (but that is now subject to question too) that the splitter is an underdrive on all gears.

Underdrive will be fine then, best of both worlds.
As for the ratios, that is just from everything i have read on tem when researching changing to a 5R, i have no info on the splitter box

    Hi Keith
IIRC when off-road automatics made the Range Rover BW35 conversion on the LT95 they cut the housing in front of the transfer and then welded an adapter plate on the front of the LT95-T/F which sounds exactly like what you are suggesting.
Don't know what they did with the drive or whether the BW35 had sufficient shaft in the extension housing to close couple without an adapter shaft.

Well Damien, to paraphrase Sir Humphrey Applebury if you ask me for a straight answer, then I shall say that, as far as I can see, looking at it by and large, taking one thing with another in terms of the average of options, then in the final analysis it is probably true to say, that at the end of the day, in general terms, you would probably find that, not to put too fine a point on it, there probably wasn't very much in it one way or the other. As far as one can see, at this stage.

Overdrive though would have been horrible 😉
