Unless you own a large multi-faceted workshop it is not really possible. If you have a workshop then you can probably afford to pay a electronics computer keeek to build you a dedicated stand alone ECU to run the engine.

If you were going to do it yourself, you would need to buy a wrecked D3/RRS and pull all the wiring and ECUs etc out of it and after doing the same put the D3 stuff into the D2. There will be issues of compatibilty eg sensors on the tfr case and how it operates are completely different.

A guy in the UK is putting a TDV8 into a D3 and had to do that but the donor car and the recipient vehicle are similar (RRS to D3)

If you can design and build ECUs then might be a goer as has been done in the UK with a TDV6 into a Defender.

D3s are now relatively cheap - sell the D2 and buy a D3

Follow this link and most of your questions will be answered..

I have been keeping an eye on it as there was talk of being about to do the same thing with the 3.6 TDV8.

I also think at this stage the 3.0 and 4.4 litre versions are still untouchable due to the CAN-BUS integration into the vehicle.

A 3.6TDV8 into my RRC is the dream. So smooth, so much torque..

There. Fixed it for you! Funny enough, I have been following the bodylogic guys stuff for a few years too. I’ve often thought about doing the 2.7 TDV6 conversion for my D1, but the 3.6 TDV8 would be sensational. Trying to do it legally is another issue entirely though! I sometimes wish I hadn’t seen the D2 rally car for sale too....

Ha! Thanks.. tyre shredding is a thing of the past for me though..

I think legally it wouldn't be such an issue. With engineering and lots of money it could be done. Heck, they are dropping LS3s in them and getting rego..

The biggest hurdle would be the drive line. The ZF would die at start up and a GM 6L80E or something would have to be made to fit. The diffs/axles wouldn't be such an issue, but would have to spend a bit to have something to manage that torque.

I would use the set up for touring and towing.

The 2.7lt with a manual behind it would be another great alternative for a simple set up.
