    Bilstein B6 for leaf springs

    I know most LR's are coil rear but for those who have the series versions or other utes with leaf rears have you fitted Billies B6 and have feedback on them? I have them on a coiler LR and they are magic but some shocks are calibrated to coils more so than leaf packs.

    I don't have feedback of Bilsteins in a leafer, but I understood the shock rates are far lower in leafers due to the interleaf friction and stiction that controls a lot of the spring action.

    ie, they may be harsh unless valved for a leafer.

    Many thanks Simon. That was my concern. I am actually thinking of going Rancho 9000 adjustables for the rear of my Triton (they are a shock I believe is designed for leaf springs - originally at least and less agro than the B6 although I would prefer the build of the Billy) and Bilstein B6 in the front (IFS - coil).

    The Rancho 9000 was designed for a bit of everything, and are really well valved for air springs of all things, but at least they can be easily adjusted to remove shock rate out of them to suit the leaf springs.

    Many thanks mate. I am not hot on the position of the adjustor on the 9000 but it can be reversed I think. My brother who has set up offroad suspensions for decades (his business) liked the Rancho 9000 for leaf sprung rears. I am just not sure if I can get the Rancho in the configuration to suit the MR Triton - so I will inquire about that this week. They need to have plenty of travel too as the Trito rear end has some reasoanble flex.

    Ok rancho definitely don't do anything for the rear of the Trito. So going a leaf insert into the pack getting it back to stock height (with tuning of the other leafs to suit) and EFS XTR front struts and rear shocks. Should be very nice.

    It would be worth chatting to Heasemans / Sydney shocks etc because I think you would find the Bilsteins are spec'd and calibrated specifically for the Triton. They're setup specifically for vehicles rather than just being an off the shelf part based on lengths and mounts.

    Ok in the end went with a rear leaf insert and EFS 40mm bore XTR shocks (front struts and rear shocks) and took it on a trip through Jimna etc today on a lot of badly corrugated roads with potholes big enough to swallow a 90 and the car was excellent. The suspension just kept the ute glued to the road. I rate the XTR so far as good as the Bilstein. Carrols Suspension at Wacol were great. Very nicely tuned rear spring packs and nicely levelled front end. Great mob.
