Bulges on the top of the guards are a working part of the aerodynamic setup. Relieves pressure build up in the wheel wells at 200mph?

From memory, with regards to the Superbird, you could buy the base model vehicle, then option all the extras including bodykit to bring it up to the same spec as the Superbird, and it would cost you less. The base model is actually a rare item these days, as most of them were optioned up.

No, they are there to stop the tyres rubbing on the underside of the guards during full down force episodes at high speeds on the banked super speedways. Remember, these are 200 mph cars.
