The Gillette one turns out to be

Known as a great shaver, this model was typically provided for free with the purchase of a related product such as Palmolive Shave Soap or Colgate Shave Stick.
I'll definitely be using this one when I clean it up. With the open comb it will be the razor of choice if and when I decide the beard must go.

The last thing I think of when I see these things is safety for some reason...

clubagreenie - you actually have to try pretty hard to cut yourself. Its not as hard to shave this way as many people seem to think...
Anyway I had a shave with the Gillette after cleaning it up a bit.
Definitely nowhere as nice as my Merkur, but could well be that I need more practice.
Definitely need to hold it at a different angle compared to the Merkur.
I can see that the long comb on the Gillette should make it a good choice when the beard eventually comes off.

I used an old Gillette one for years that was Da's, then I think he pinched it back when he moved up north twenty years ago.
God only knows where it is now.

Just bought some new Feather brand blades (the only ones still made to suit autostrop valet razors) - the blades were cheap enough USD$4.50 for 5 blades but $13.50 for shipping hurt.
Oh well I bought 25 blades so that should last me approximately forever since I won't be using it every day.

As a young lad I always had a buzz cut on the noggin. Twice I actually went bald. First time the barber did it with a cut-throat and I could just feel the tiniest bit of stubble. Second time a mate did it with a Phillishave electric job, and it was smooth as silk.
Despite this, I always hated electric shavers for my face.

Well I've been alternating between my Merkur HD and my Gillette open comb (above).
Loving it.
problem is i get such a good shave I dont have to shave as often. Bugger.

Just scored an almost mint Gillette TTO Adjustable Slim. J3 date code (3rd quarter 1964).
I'll give it a whirl when I get some blades.
Then find a blade hone/sharpener. Could always try the waterglass trick first I suppose.

Is it wrong that I have a group section of contact in my phone for hair removal, and none of them do anything facial (well hair removal wise anyway)
