    Spanish F1 GP

Seems the Fans are winning the battle for a 'proper' sounding F1 car.
Will be interesting to see how they sound. Or rather, what sort of noise they will make.

Not the most credible source for information, but it will do for now......Until I find a better source of Information.

Not only F1 cars, but some new cars are coming out with sound generators built in so they sound like real cars, and the sound changes depending what mode you select ie. sport mode, economy mode ect.
What is the world coming to?
It really ****es me off when manufactures try for less emissions, better fuel economy and the rest, and they turn around and put this stupid **** into cars. Makes me wonder how much emissions are being created by manufacturing this sort of stuff.
Do they care about climate change? Like **** they do!
The whole thing is a crock!

From memory the R34 Skylines had a butterfly valve in the rear of the exhaust to change the note, via a switch on the dash.
They say the Emissions used in making a Prius, far out way the benefits of having such a vehicle......

Here's another link........(more credible) (in my humble opinion)

plenty of cars (well sporty kinds of cars) these days have dynamic exhaust systems with quiet and "LOOK AT ME" settings.

I think they are more commonly an aftermarket thing though.

The idea of a quiet race car sounds a little silly though

Edit: ah so they are quieter because the F1's now run turbos?
Dynamic car exhausts are kind of irrelevant then.

Yes, a quiet race car is rather silly.
Yes, the high end Mercs, Porsches, that sort of thing have a "variable" exhaust system on them.
RE: your edit, not coz they are now turbo, but part of the overall design of the big new ,1.6 format......

Talking about exhaust systems the 406 V6 in Peugeot and Citroen have a factory fitted rear silencer (muffler) which made the car very quite.
Replacing it by a free flow one there is a gain of not less than 15 HP and better torque range which in turn gives better economy.

Sounds like the Freelander V6. Take off the rear muff, and you have a better sounding rocket!

I can't believe all the whingeing about something as basic as the exhaust note of an F1 car.

thats what a V6 sounds like.

they've done the right thing to the series and brought back some racing into it.

V6 holdens racing sound like that...

    what's the problem?

Seriously, V6's don't sound like that. How many 1.6ltr Turbo V6's do you know?? I've got a V6 Freelander (minus a rear muff) that sounds w a y better than they do. ....
More to the point, how many 1.6 V6's do you know at all.....??

Well the Lexus is250 is not a 1600 engine, it is a bit bigger and it sounds like is it have a severe combustion diarrhea.
There is nothing like the V12 Ferrari sound
