How about a Kurtis Kraft KK500S? First built by Frank Kurtis about 1954 as sports-racing cars and in (very) limited production ever since. Examples have been made with most US V8's, a few with Offys, and some early examples with 50's six cylinder engines.
This one was built about five years ago and was getting a detail at the Kurtis shop in Bakersfield in 2011 before being offered for sale. It is registered and used on the road. Has a small block Chev. of about 400 hp. Weighs less than a ton. I was taken for a drive by Arlen Kurtis, Frank's son. Handles like you expect of a race car and goes like a 400 hp lightweight car.
Arlen will build you one to order. Your choice of engine, wheelbase, transmission, etc. He does not like fitting big Chrysler hemis as the cylinder heads get in the way. His favourite is the nail-head Buick, easy to house and lots of horses.
This car's identical twin was offered for sale at the auction accompanying 2011 Amelia Island Concours. A pre-auction indicative price of $85,000 was listed but it sold for $140,000. This appears to have become the benchmark price for these as none are now offered for sale for less.
Inc's system tells me I have already uploaded these photos in the thread Great Racing Cars from the Past, so look in there. System won't allow me to put them here.
Two I have spotted in the last year or two! Just love the Beemer:)
