    Supercars.

Not many fans of Supercars here, in fact many think it's dead, I get that on this forum, but of course I don't agree,...I reckon it's going from strength to strength.
Case in point being last evening's "Trackside" telecast telecast live from the Towwnsville circuit. Jeez, it was just a one hour talking session, but there was a huge crowd to just simply listen to a 1 hr chat by Skaifey, Russell, Crompton etc. Biggest crowd I've seen for a Trackside program.
The Bathurst telecast, and not for the first time, won the Logie for best outdoor telecast, races for next year are already being locked in, and the "at risk" Sandown 500 has committed for another two years with a new naming sponsor.
The Bend's first Supercar race is coming up shortly, there's word of a new circuit in N. Qld,...guys, it's all happening.
And what I like to hear, is the backing the Series gets from ALL the State Premiers.
Mustang will (well it already has!) will add huge interest next year, I reckon Camaro is a cert, but from what I learned last night, maybe not until 2020.
Anyway, three days of Foxtel racing coming up for me. Give it a look, but if ya're just gonna watch the actual race, ya're never gonna "get it",...it's what goes on in the pits, what the drivers say in interviews, tyre/fuel strategies, what tryres they use for quali etc etc,...all about how the car gets "set up/tuned" for the race, which is important,....to me anyway. And this part of the racing IS vitally important if ya wanna try to understand what goes on in Supercars,...the cars are far more complex than any tin top we've had in Aussie before,....virtually every part of the car is "tuneable", which is a major part of success in this game.
"Quali" is vitally impoprtant, when ya've got 26 cars separated by around a second, it's absolutely vital to qualify up the field. For me, what goes on "Pre Race" is sometimes just as interesting as the race itself.
    Flamers now proceed!

This is the first year in the last five that I make sure I watch it . The cars are now more equal & anyone can win not just Red Bull. Commentary is still lousy , very one sided, there are too many ex Holden drivers to Ford. That's what I think.

No flaming from me Pickles, just my opinion which I'm sure you know already. 😉😁

Even if I wanted to start watching again, I'm not paying for Foxtel so pretty much screws that anyway - the highlights package on FTO isn't worth watching. I'll watch the Enduros on FTO but that will be it.

Not sure if it's going from strength to strengh - I'll leave that for those that watch it regularly but many years ago everyone I hung around with at work watched and talked about it, there was plenty of ads on telly so you knew when it was on, but I don't even know race dates any more, see no advertising to even say the series is on and no one at work talks about it (which is really strange as we are a major sponsor).

Happy for those that like watching it, it's just not my cup of tea any more - I do like watching Formula E though.

I used to be mad on the Supercars but have found lately that I have lost interest. No real reason I suppose - I don't hate them. I do find it frustrating that they are not a reflection on cars that you can buy at a showroom - although I suppose neither is F1 or WRC for that matter...

In fact I often see a news report and think "darn - I didn't even notice that they were on"
I do lock in Bathurst each year though and watch it..

I no longer find motor racing to be of any interest to me, especially Supercars. I went Bathurst once in about 1967 I'm not sure if I've ever watched more than an hour of Bathurst on TV - it's just too boring.

But I will say that TV coverage of the race is excellent.

I used to watch F1 - until Senna died. It was good in the days of Keke Rosberg and Alan Jones. I don't even watch the highlights anymore. MotoGP? I stopped watching years ago - probably after Doohan stopped racing, because I didn't care who won. It was good racing in the days of Gardner and later, Doohan.

When I was marshalling at bike races for Terry O'Neill (TerryO on this forum), I didn't watch the races, I just took photos, I didn't care who won. (I didn't work at a marshalling position on track, I did the grid or pit lane.)

A couple of interesting practice sessions today, Jamie on top.
If ya've got time, ya might want to watch qualifying tomorrow, a 20 min session commencing 11.55am!

    Hey Pickles,

I watched the press conference where Lowndes retired - do you think that it was 100% his decision? He kept saying "Roland and myself made the decision"...

Maybe (probably) I am reading too much into it - but I got the feeling that it wasn't entirely his decision, otherwise he would have said: "I've made the decision"...

    What do you think?

PS - He's one of my favourite Supercar drivers.

Redbull wanted Loundes gone last year , he was their 3rd stream driver and they only want 2 cars. Caltex stepped up with the $$$ to sponser Loundes car for the last part of 2017 & all 2018 and no longer.

I am sure loundes could find another team but there may be some behind the scenes deals going on, of that I am unsure.

I am not a huge supercars fan , but being a good customer of Caltex does have some advantages.

    cheers Ean

Hello, I appreciate your interest, .....and I agree with you.
I have NO "inside info", but having been a fan of Aussie "tintops", in whatever form, for probably 50+ yrs, I've never seen a less happy "retirement". ....I knew Brock personally, & so I can say that Craig's countenance was totally different to Peter's.
    So, I'm sad, Pickles.
