I think I have about 5 Cu ft of vinyl and I've converted some to Mp3 by using a turntable with a USB outlet and Audacity (free)software. The results are good enough for me, but perhaps not the purists.

I have a cubic foot of records I'm keeping for some reason,,
after this I'm not sure why,,
maybe its because if I ever have another proper record playing system it will have decent speakers,,
as opposed to the crap ones playing my digital music now,,

I keep thinking I should sell my Thorens TD125 turnatable, SME 3009 tonearm, and Shure V15 cartridge.
Something like this (not mine):

They don't get used any more and I still have two other turntables (Pioneer PL51 direct drive and APAN BFU121 belt drive).

Hi,
Ditto, plus a reel to reel tape recorder.
Cheers
I have two Harmon-Kardon HK1000 cassette decks. In their day, they were up there with Nakamichi.

Ditched all my physical sources of music years ago. All digital, shared across all my devices - can play any song from any device, any time.
I get why people keep vinyl/cassettes/etc but not my cup of tea and I'm not enough of an audiophile to be able to hear any differences - I've always found records to hiss and pop and be generally crap, so I haven't bought a record since CD's were first released. Stopped buying them years ago now as well.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
most of mine got used as frisbees by my kids
I still have about 30 or 40 I listen too every now and them but not as often these days as I pretty much have everything in Flac or Alac these days

I loved CD's when they first came out and ditched all my vinyl and tapes years ago.
I have yet to embrace the MP3 Bluetooth way of playing music fully because I don't know how to get my CD's onto my phone so I can use this type of system.
My daughter put 100 or so songs on my phone that I play with one of those small "Boom Boxes" that work on Wi-Fi but that's as far as I have gotten so far.
I also find it easier to select songs using a CD player than fiddling about with my phone when I am driving the car or the boat.

Got to love the vinyl . For one it is yours , not something floating about in the either. The tactile enjoyment of actually playing the record is much nicer than push of a button. Though I do convert all my records to a digital format , partially for reference that I don’t buy something that is already in the collection, and I can’t bring a turntable with me to work. The only draw back is that I now have to de select a lot from the library as my digital player ran out of room a while back. Keeping my eye open for a cheap 256 gb iPhone so I can continue to grow my collection.
The cloud to me is not real , where the cover art and liner notes are in some cases almost as good as the music
Ron,
Thorens, S.M.E., Shure, the holy trinity!!!
Vinyl much warmer to listen to. Have about 1000 vinyl albums and hanging on to all of them.
Peter.
