    1941 single cylinder Witte diesel generator

    While the whole contraption is cool,, the oil filtration method ( 9min ) is very clever for something designed 100 years ago...

    Not an unfamiliar system, but there were a lot of clever technology ideas designed and built a lot more than 100 years ago. Just that we do not realise how old the designs are until we look into them, if they are designs still in use. One that comes to mind for example is roller bearings. While the general idea goes back into the dim and distant past, it can come as a surprise if you look at ones made by John Harrison in the middle of the eighteenth century that look as if they came from the bearing shop down the road yesterday.

    More interesting to readers today though are the technologies such as this one, that have been completely superseded, in this case by paper filters.
