A girlfriend of mine had a FIAT bambino about twenty years ago, most bizarre thing I've ever ridden in! (And I thought the X1/9 was small...)

Was the X1/9 a direct copy of the Triumph TR7 or vice versaQuote:

The TR7 is a just an ongoing evolution of the TR series Triumphs and is an entirely conventional layout: front engine, to bellhouse, then to box and on to the rear axle/diff/drive. But imho the TR6 was better, had a better donk; the TR 7 had a 4 cyl somethinoruther, but the TR6 had a nice (mechanical) fuel injected 2.5 litre six which was a brilliant piece of work for its day.
TR7 was a fixed roof, but towards the end of its life the roof came off and there was an optional V8 (aka the TR8, or the TR7V8) and the V8 was something we here are very familiar with, I believe....
The X1/9 runs a 1300 cc Fiat sohc donk which is right behind my left ear and screams to 9000 revs. The body is a Targa and the hard roof comes off, and is stored in the front 'boot'.
Bertone made the tubs and FIAT fitted the drive train which was pinched from the FIAT128. The 128 was asedan with regular front wheel drive setup, and they transplated the drivetrain to the middle for the X1/9. There are tie rods instead of steering at the rear, but its always fun with the tyre guys:
'Can you do a toe in toe out on all four wheels?'
The X1/9 is a nice piece, but the FIAT running gear has a bad habit of failing...
Do a google and you'll find 'em.

I thought it was about time I posted some photos of my on-road car. This is an every-other day driver and runs better than a new one. Restored and fully sorted with electronic ignition a tin-particle catalyst so it can use premium unleaded. Racing suspension from the previous owner makes it stick like s**t to a tea towel. I have had it for 15 years now and it's interesting when you actually own your dream car, you kind of stop buying so many car magazines. It's a good companion for the Defender - due to their extreme differences I never feel like I'm cheating on one when I drive the other car.

ALFAs rock !
Automotive sanity is not here, or we'd all be driving, umm, something dull, like maybe a Hyundai, or a Triton or a, Cruiser, or a Kia, or....
